Governor Rick Scott announced today that Southwest Florida added more than 11,000 private-sector jobs over the year in September. The Fort Myers area added 7,200 jobs and the area’s unemployment rate was 4.7 percent, down 0.3 percentage point in the last year. The Naples area added 4,200 jobs and the area’s unemployment rate was 5.4 percent, down 0.2 percentage point in the last year. Florida businesses created 17,900 private-sector jobs across the state during September 2016, bringing the total number of jobs created since December 2010 to 1,222,500 jobs.
Governor Scott said, “With more than 11,000 new jobs created in Southwest over the past year, it is clear that our focus on cutting $1 billion in taxes over the past two years is helping job creators provide new opportunities for our families. We want Florida to be the number one state for jobs and we will keep doing everything we can to achieve that goal.”
Florida’s statewide unemployment rate remained at 4.7 percent, the lowest rate since November 2007. For the 54th consecutive month, Florida’s annual job growth rate of 3.6 percent is also exceeding the nation’s rate of 1.9 percent. ... See MoreSee Less
